The Museum of Gustave Moreau

My KSU class visited a museum in Montmartre dedicated to the symbolist painter, Gustave Moreau.  I hadn't heard of his work before and was interested to find out waht it was like.  I fell in love with it.  He created layers upon layers in his paintings.  They aren't as "pretty" as the Impressionist paintings that I typically love, but they are so intricate and fascinating that I couldn't stop looking at them trying to take in all of the action in each painting.  Here are a few pictures of his work:


The pics above and just below are parts of paintings of which I was trying to focus on details.
The black patterns are unfinished parts of the paintings that were only drawn in but not painted.  They look like tatoos.
